Upgrading Kaspersky Internet Security v7 to 2009
Before you start...
Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 does not work with versions of Windows prior to XP SP2.
To check your windows version, right-click on 'My Computer' and select 'Properties'.
Under 'System', it will say something like:
Microsoft Windows XP
Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2
If you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7, you don't need to worry.
If you are running Windows XP and the last line says 'Service Pack 1' or if there are only three lines, you should not proceed - please give us a call to discuss your options.
Please read through all these instructions before you begin
Although it is possible to update Kaspersky Internet Security v7 to 2009 directly, it is strongly recommended to uninstall your existing version first.
There are a 3 basic steps to upgrading to Kaspersky Internet Security 2009:
- Download the latest version of Kaspersky Internet Security 2009
- Uninstall Kaspersky Internet Security v7
- Install Kaspersky Internet Security 2009
Detailed steps are provided below. Should you require any technical assistance with the installation, beyond that supplied here, this is available at our normal rates.
1. Download the latest version of Kaspersky Internet Security 2009
Click on this link http://www.atec.co.uk/download/kis.exe

Note the download is >50MB so please do not attempt to download it unless you have Broadband!
Click [Save] - Important: Do not click Run!

[Save] it to a convenient folder, e.g. your Windows desktop. Make a note of where you have saved it for later!

Wait for the download to complete....

.... click [Close]
2. Uninstall Kaspersky Internet Security v7
Warning: after this step, you computer will be temporarily unprotected. We recommend that you disconnect from the internet now (i.e. physically unplug) and do not use any usb flash drives until after step 3

Click on Windows [Start] button and then Control Panel; it will look like this...
or this 
select Add or Remove Programs;

Find Kaspersky Internet Security v7 in the list and click on it
click on the [Change/Remove] button

Click on 'Remove'

Select 'Save application objects', and ensure that the 'Keep activation data' and 'Keep protection settings' boxes are ticked.
Click [Next >]

Click [Remove]

A screen will appear showing the progress of the uninstallation

When the uninstallation is complete, click [OK]

When asked to reboot your system, click [Yes] to complete the uninstallation.
Warning: Your computer is now completely unprotected; close any programs that automatically start when your computer reboots, do not check you email, proceed immediately with step 3
Important: If your existing antivirus product fails to uninstall, do not proceed with step 3 because your system will become unusable; please give us a call on 01728 861777 and we will talk you through removing the existing product manually.
3. Install Kaspersky Internet Security 2009
Exit from any applications you are running;
double click on the file kis.exe which you downloaded in step 1.

You may receive a Windows Firewall warning; you will need to click 'Unblock'.
Do not worry if this does not appear.

When the setup welcome screen appears, click [Next >];

accept the Licence terms; click [Next >];

click the Express installation button;

click [Install];

When the 'Installation Complete' window appears click [Next >].

The Configuration Wizard window appears.... At this point make sure your PC is connected to the Internet and is online.
Click 'Next'

Because we saved the activation data while uninstalling Kaspersky Internet Security v7, the installation of 2009 has retrieved that information.
A window will appear confirming your activation status
Click 'Next'

The configuration wizard will analyse the programs currently installed on your computer and build it's initial rules from those.

The Kaspersky Security Network is purely for statistical analysis of virus patterns. You can choose to participate if you wish, but we would recommend opting out by unticking the first box.
Click 'Next'

You're almost there!
Make sure you close any other programs you have running, then click 'Finish' to restart your computer.
When your computer reboots, it may take longer than usual to reach a usable state; do not worry as this is a one-off delay while Kaspersky scans the programs that start with windows.

You will see several messages like the one above; there is nothing you need to do now.
After a short while, Kaspersky will update itself and will require another reboot.
Once you have done this, you should be finished!
