Upgrading to Kaspersky Internet Security 2009

Please read through all these instructions before you begin; We strongly recommend that you print them out for reference.

You will be required to enter your Kaspersky Internet Security activation code during the install process; please make sure you have this to hand.

There are a 4 basic steps to installing Kaspersky Internet Security 2009:

  1. Download the latest version of Kaspersky Internet Security 2009
  2. Uninstall your existing Antivirus product e.g. BitDefender Professional v10
  3. Install & Activate Kaspersky Internet Security 2009
  4. Fine tuning Kaspersky Internet Security 2009

Detailed steps are provided below. Should you require any technical assistance with the installation, beyond that supplied here, this is available at our normal rates.

1. Download the latest version of Kaspersky Internet Security 2009

Click on this link http://www.atec.co.uk/download/kis.exe

Note the download is >32MB so please do not attempt to download it unless you have Broadband!
Click [Save] - Important: Do not click Run!

[Save] it to a convenient folder, e.g. your Windows desktop. Make a note of where you have saved it for later!

Wait for the download to complete....

.... click [Close]

2. Uninstall your existing Antivirus product

Warning: after this step, you computer will be temporarily unprotected. We recommend that you disconnect from the internet now (i.e. physically unplug) and do not use any usb flash drives until after step 3

Click on Windows [Start] button and then Control Panel; it will look like this...

  or this  

select Add or Remove Programs;

find your Antivirus product in the list, e.g. BitDefender 10 Professional Plus, and click on it;
click on the [Remove] button and follow the instructions to uninstall the product.
When instructed to do so reboot your system to complete the uninstallation.

Warning: Your computer is now completely unprotected; close any programs that automatically start when your computer reboots, do not check you email, proceed immediately with step 3

Important: If your existing antivirus product fails to uninstall, do not proceed with step 3 because your system will become unusable; please give us a call on 01728 861777 and we will talk you through removing the existing product manually.

3. Install & Activate Kaspersky Internet Security 2009

Exit from any applications you are running;
double click on the file kis.exe which you downloaded in step 1.

You may receive a Windows Firewall warning; you will need to click 'Unblock'.
Do not worry if this does not appear.

When the setup welcome screen appears, click [Next >];

accept the Licence terms; click [Next >];

click the Express installation button;

click [Install];

When the 'Installation Complete' window appears click [Next >].

The Configuration Wizard window appears.... At this point make sure your PC is connected to the Internet and is online.

On the 'General information' screen, click 'Next'

Select 'Activate online'

carefully enter your activation code in the box untick 'I already have a Customer ID' and click 'Next'

A window will briefly appear showing activation status....

[There might be a prompt for email address and location]

then in the next Window you will be prompted to enter your email address and location details...
Either enter your own email address in the box or, if you don't want to be contacted by Kaspersky, enter kaspersky@atec.co.uk;
click on the down arrow to the left of the Location box and select United Kingdom from the drop-down list;
leave the City box empty; click [Next >];
the activation status window will briefly appear again, followed by....

a window saying key successfully installed.
Important!: Please make a note of the "Number" and "Expiration date" and email these details to us - we will update our database allowing us to give you a timely reminder before your 12 month subscription expires.
click 'Next'

A couple of windows will briefly appear automatically tuning Kaspersky to your computer
When complete, ensure the 'Restart computer' box is ticked, then click 'Finish'.

You can now reconnect to the internet

4. Fine tuning Kaspersky Internet Security 2009

That completes the installation, however there are a couple of settings in Kaspersky which we suggest you change in order to make it a little more user friendly:

  1. Mail dispatcher intercepts email and prompts you each time you do a send/receive - this can be a little tiresome.
  2. Self-Defense is enabled by default and stops us from accessing it to resolve any problems during a PCAnywhere session.

To change the settings:

right click on Kaspersky icon in system tray...

and select Settings from the menu.

Click on Content Filtering in left hand window pane then click on the first Settings button

Click on Open Mail Dispatcher when receiving email... to clear the tick.
Click [OK]

Click on Options in left hand window pane then click on Enable Self-Defense to clear the tick.

Click [OK]
