Upgrading to BitDefender Internet Security 2012
Please read through all these instructions before you begin.
There are a 6 simple steps to installing BitDefender Internet Security 2012:
Detailed steps are provided below. Should you require any technical assistance with the installation, beyond that supplied here, this is available at our normal rates.
Step 1 - check system requirements
BitDefender Internet Security 2012 may not install on older computers. To verify that your computer meets the minimum requirements, please download and run our pre-install check utility: BD-PreInstallCheck.hta
Step 2 - download BitDefender Internet Security 2012 installer
The installer for BitDefender Internet Security 2012 is a relatively small file which will automatically download the correct version of the installation files for your computer. download here
If you are currently running Kaspersky Internet Security, we recommend you download the force removal tool: kavremover.exe
We recommend that you save these files to a convenient location, such as your desktop.
Step 3 - uninstall your existing antivirus
Kaspersky
Run the kavremover.exe utility downloaded in step 2. You will be presented with a captcha from which you'll have to enter the characters in the box provided. If you can't decipher the characters, press the refresh button on the right to generate a new captcha. The characters will be from the set 0-9,A-F.
Once the removal utility has completed, you will need to reboot your computer before continuing with the installation. You can now delete the kavremover.exe file.
Other antivirus product
Run the bitdefender_installer_2012.exe file downloaded in step 2. It will detect any existing antivirus software. Click 'Yes' to uninstall it.
The uninstall steps will vary depending on your existing antivirus product, but will invariably require a reboot before continuing.
Step 4 - install BitDefender Internet Security 2012
Run the bitdefender_installer_2012.exe file downloaded in step 2. This time it will present you with a license agreement, which you must agree to before continuing - just click 'Agree & Continue'
If you already have a license key for BitDefender Internet Security, enter it here. Enter your email address in the 'Email' field, then click 'Install'
If you don't have a license key yet, click on 'I want to evaluate this product', then click 'Install' (email address is not required at this stage)
The installer will now download the required installation files, and simultaneously perform a virus scan. This step can take between 5 and 45 minutes, depending on your internet connection speed.
Congratulations, BitDefender is installed. Click 'Finish' to close the installer.
BitDefender needs to configure it's firewall for the network you're connected to. If you are at home or work, select 'trusted network', tick 'Remember this...' and press the 'OK' button.
Step 5 - Register
If you didn't enter a license key during the installation, you will be running in trial mode. To activate your subscription you will need to enter the license key we've supplied.
From the main BitDefender window, click on 'License Info'. A new window will appear.
Enter your license key in the box provided and press 'Register Now'. After a few seconds, the 'Current license information' section will be updated to reflect your new status. You can then click 'Close'.
Step 6 - Create and activate 'MyBitdefender' account
BitDefender needs to be associated with a 'MyBitdefender' account in order to receive updates beyond 30 days.
From the main BitDefender window, click on 'Complete registration'. A new window will appear.
If you entered your email address during installation, you will receive an email from BitDefender - simply click on the link in the email to complete activation.
If you entered an atec.co.uk email address previously, we recommend you create an account with your own email address, by clicking on 'Login with another account'
If you haven't yet entered any email address, proceed directly to the next step.
Click on 'Create new account'
Enter your email address and create a password. Click 'Submit' when done.
BitDefender will send an activation email to the supplied email address - simply click on that link to complete activation.
